ALFRED, NY — Ryan Thon (Victor, NY/Victor), a senior wide receiver on the Alfred University football team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Thon was awarded for his play in the Saxons’ 42-31 victory over visiting St. John Fisher College on Saturday. He caught seven passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns and also threw a 47-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter that broke a 14-14 tie and gave the Saxons the lead for good.

It is the second time Thon has been named conference Offensive Player of the Week; he also earned the honor after Alfred’s Oct. 9 win at Hartwick.

Alfred (6-1, 3-0 Empire 8) plays next on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 12:30 p.m. at home against Rochester. The Saxons are currently ranked 20th in the D3football.com national poll and 25th in the American Football Coaches Association national poll.
