Saxons defeat Cobleskill, 4-2

COBLESKILL, NY —The Alfred University men’s soccer team answered Cobleskill’s quick strike with four straight goals, en route to a 4-2, victory.

Souleymane Kone got Cobleskill on the board just forty seconds in the game. The Saxons would answer the early goal with four straight goals. Freshman midfielder Jeffery Thomas (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) tied the game at 1-1, off an assist from junior midfielder Ean Kelleher (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh). Senior defender Nick Schneider (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and sophomore forward Stefan Nonnemann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) each scored an unassisted goal, and senior midfielder Mark Nesbitt (Nunda, NY/Keshequa) capped the Saxons scored off an assist from Thomas. Cobleskill’s Brandon Cooper capped the scoring netting a goal with just under twenty-five minutes to play for Cobleskill.

Alfred outshot Cobleskill (4-11-1) 26-8, and held and advantage in shots on goal 14-3. Junior goalie
Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/ Thunder Ridge) made one save in goal for Alfred playing nearly 70 minutes of action, before being relieved by freshman Jacob Bird (Auburn, NY/Auburn) for the remainder of the game. Mack Curran made 10 saves in goal for Cobleskill.

Alfred (5-9-3, 0-6-0 E8) is in action next on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. at home vs. St. John Fisher.
