AU’s Currie earns Empire 8 all-conference tennis honors

ALFRED, NY – Griffin Currie (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep), a junior on the Alfred University women's tennis team, has earned Empire 8 all-conference honors for a third straight year.

The Empire 8 announced its 2010 women's tennis all-conference teams Wednesday and Currie was given honorable mention as a singles player. Currie posted a 6-6 record in singles play this fall, including a 3-5 mark in conference matches.

Currie was the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and a Second Team conference all-star as a freshman in 2008, and was a Second Team pick in singles in 2009.

Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school, who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of “competing with honor and integrity.” Sophomore Catherine Spencer (Homer, NY/Homer) is Alfred’s honoree from the women’s tennis team.

Alfred finished the 2010 season with a 4-8 record (2-6 Empire 8).
