11/04/10

ALFRED, NY – Alfred University’s Shanna Ewoldt (Tuscon, AZ/Waubansie Valley) has been named an Empire 8 Conference women’s soccer all-star for the second time in as many years.

The Empire 8 announced its all-star teams today and Ewoldt a senior goalkeeper, was named to the Second Team.

Ewoldt, in her second year on the team, started all 15 games in goal and made 129 saves, finishing with a 2.21 goals against average and .801 save percentage with five shutouts. Her 129 saves and 8.60 saves per game were both tops in the Empire 8. She earned honorable mention from the conference as a junior in 2009.

Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school, who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of “competing with honor and integrity.” Junior forward/midfielder Erin Crandall (Almond, NY/Alfred-Almond) is Alfred’s honoree from the women’s soccer team.

Alfred finished the 2010 season with a 4-8-3 record (0-6-2 Empire 8).
