'The Ultimate Guide': AU is a 'great school, great deal'

The publishers of U.S. News and World Report’s annual college guide are out with a new publication – US News Ultimate College Guide 2011. Alfred University has been named a best value and is included on the “Great Deals at Great Schools” list.

"More Americans than ever are asking themselves if college is worth the cost, and the most influential evaluator of American colleges and universities, U.S. News, has conducted an unbiased study that attempts to answer that question. Based on that study, one can only conclude that an Alfred University education is a great investment."said AU President Charles M. Edmondson.

For the second year in a row, Alfred University is also rated by The Fiske Guide to Colleges, 2011 edition, as a ‘Best Buy.” Only 45 colleges and universities nationwide – the top 1 percent – are included on the list as having excellent value for the price.

In its annual guide, US News has consistently ranked Alfred University among the top three “Great Schools at a Great Price” among master’s degree-granting institutions in the North.

“To determine which schools offer the best value, U.S.News & World Report used a formula that relates a school’s academic quality, as indicated by its U.S.News ranking, to the net cost of attendance for a student who receives the average level of financial aid—the higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the deal,” according to a press release from Sourcebooks, the publisher of the guides.
