Saxons drop season opener to Penn-State DuBois, 90-72

DUBOIS,PA—The Alfred University men’s basketball team dropped its season opener to host Penn-State DuBois, 90-72, Monday night.

Penn-Sate Dubois shot 65 percent in the fist half, and led 46-33 at intermission. Penn-State shot 55 percent for the game, while holding the Saxons to 37 percent shooting. Alfred hurt itself at the line making only 17 of 35 free throws.

AU (0-1) was lead by junior forward Derek Lewis (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) netting 15 points, while making three from behind the arc. Junior guard Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) scored 14 points and picked up four rebounds, and senior guard Mike Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) scored nine points and had two assists, and one steal. Sophomore forward Gerald Colas (Houston, TX/Cypress Ridge) had a team-high eight rebounds.

Chris Dickison and Josh Salter each netted a game-high 26 points to pace DuBois(1-0). Salter also picked up a game-high 10 rebounds.

Alfred is in action next Friday Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. when they take on New Jersey City in the first round of the Eastern University Tournament.
