Penn College edges AU men’s basketball team, 61-59

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Host Pennsylvania College of Technology defeated the Alfred University men’s basketball team, 61-59, Monday evening.

Penn College (1-4) shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half and led Alfred (1-3), 34-31, at intermission. Alfred shot 35 percent in the first period and 33 percent for the game while the host Wildcats finished shooting 49 percent for the contest. The hosts outrebounded Alfred, 40-32, to help overcome 21 turnovers.

Sophomore forward Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) scored a team-high 14 rebounds to go with three rebounds for AU. Senior point guard Gary Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) had 13 points and five assists and junior guard Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) had 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Leroy Joiner had a game-high 22 points to go with 11 rebounds, three assists and five steals to pace Penn Collge. Greg Solyak added 19 points and seven rebounds and Nico Italiani pulled down eight boards.

AU is in action next on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 4 p.m. at home against Hilbert.
