AU wins on last-second basket

ALFRED, NY—The Alfred University men’s basketball team defeated visiting Hilbert College, 78-76, Saturday evening.

Junior guard Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) netted the game winning basket as time expired to give the Saxons the victory.

The Saxons overcame a nine point second half deficit to earn the last second victory, scoring 21 points off of Hilbert turnovers. For the game AU held an advantage out shooting the Hawks 47 percent to their 43.

AU (2-3) was lead by senior guard Mike Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) scoring a game-high 21 points, while picking up three rebounds, and three assists. Senior Gary Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) (five assists) and sophomore guard Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) each netted 14 points. Parker finished with 10 points.

Keon Rembert scored a game-high 21 points, while picking up nine boards to pace the Hawks. Chris Parrott netted 19 points, adding six rebounds and three assists; Chris Hoak scored 11 points.

Alfred is in action next Wednesday Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., vs. SUNY Canton.
