ALFRED, NY-- The Alfred University men’s basketball team defeated visiting Cazenovia College, 96-62, Saturday afternoon.

The Saxons shot an impressive 59 percent from the floor, while holding the Wildcats to 35 percent, and held a 44-30 lead at intermission.
For the game AU shot 55 percent and held Cazenoiva to 32 percent.

AU was led by senior guard Mike Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville), who scored a game-high 17 points. Senior guard Gary Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) scored 12 points, and had a game-high five assists, and sophomore guard Sean Curran (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) netted 11 points.

Bryant Winans lead the Wildcats, scoring 11 points while picking up a pair of rebounds. Darnell Sampson and Brandon Haughton each scored 10 points and had four rebounds.

AU (4-3) is in action next on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. against visiting Paul Smith’s.
