AU indoor track and field teams open at RIT Early Season Invitational

ROCHESTER, NY — The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams each debuted with strong performances at the RIT-hosted Early Season Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 11.

Freshman Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) paced the AU women, winning the high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters. She also set a new school record in the pole vault (2.73 meters), finishing fifth. Classmate Eliza Parker (Oswego, NY/Oswego) posted the AU women’s team’s other win, taking the 55-meter hurdles in 9.24 seconds. Parker also placed fifth in the 55-meter dash (7.95 seconds).

Other top-five finishes turned in by the AU women were: junior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown), second in the 1,000-meter run (3:19.71) and fourth in the mile run (5:36.24); sophomore Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell), fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:05.84); junior Annie Mills (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough), fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (9.35 seconds); freshman Elizabeth De Monte (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman), second in the high jump (1.47 meters); and sophomore Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), fifth in the shot put (10.05 meters).

Senior Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) led the AU men, winning the shot put (14.60 meters) and qualifying to compete at the ECAC indoor championships March 3 and 4.

Junior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) took third in both the 200-meter dash (23.67 seconds) and 400-meter dash (52.14 seconds); sophomore Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) placed fifth in the 55-meter dash (6.74 seconds) and fifth in the long jump (6.13 meters); and freshman Craig Gaymon (White Plains, NY/White Plains) was fourth in the high jump (1.77 meters).
