Bombers beat Saxons, 104-51

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s basketball team lost to host Ithaca College, 104-51, Friday evening.

Ithaca (10-2, 2-0 Empire 8) made nine three-pointers, shooing an impressive 60 percent from the floor. The Bombers held a 58-24 lead at intermission, and Alfred could not pull any closer.

Senior guard Mike Stopera (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) scored eight points and a pair of assists to lead the Saxons (5-5, 0-2 Empire 8), who shot 30 percent from the floor. Guards Gary Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) and Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) each scored seven points, while picking up four and three boards respectively. Sophomore forward Gerald Colas (Houston, TX/Cypress Ridge) scored seven points and picked up a team-high five rebounds.

Phil Barera and Chris Cruz-Rivas each netted a game-high 18 points; picking up eight and 10 rebounds respectively.

Alfred plays next on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 4 p.m. at Utica.
