Lady Saxons edge Hartwick, 48-47

ONEONTA,NY—The Alfred University women’s basketball team defeated Hartwick, 48-47, Friday night in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.

Senior guard Lynsday Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) made a pair of free-throws with three seconds remaining to lift the Saxons past the Hawks 48-47. For the game AU finished shooting 34 percent from the floor (81 percent from the free-throw line), and held Hartwick to 25 percent.

Murphy finished scoring a game-high 18 points and six rebounds to pace AU (6-7, 2-2 Empire 8). Senior forward Autumn McLain (Oneida, NY/Oneida) notched a double-double scoring 11 points, while picking up a game-high 15 boards, and freshman forward Sarah Federico (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels) netted 11 points, and had six rebounds.

Katrina Caulfield netted 14 points and had eight rebounds and four steals to lead the Hawks. Kate Purcell recorded a double-double scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Alfred is in action next on Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. at Stevens.
