AU women’s basketball handles Wells

AURORA, NY-- The Alfred University women’s basketball team defeated host Wells College, 78-47, Thursday evening in a non-conference game.

AU (7-8, 2-4 Empire 8) led 40-26 at the half and outscored the hosts 38-21 after intermission. Alfred forced 31 turnovers, outrebounded Wells 45-38, and had 20 assists.

Senior guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) paced the Saxons, netting a game-high 26 points, while picking up four rebound, four assists, and a pair of blocks. Junior guard Christina Jordan (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall) netted 11 points and added five boards and four steals, and freshman forward Grace Williamson (Olean, NY/Olean) scored seven points while picking up six rebounds and three assists.

Senior forward Autumn McClain (Oneida, NY/Oneida) scored six points and had seven boards and three steals and senior guard Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) dished out a game-high seven assists. Senior forward Lauren Sanford (Hornell, NY/Hornell) chipped in six points and six boards.

Wells' Ashley Roser recorded a double-double, with 22 points and game-high 13 rebounds. Kristen Ryan netted 11 points and had three assists for the host Express (2-13).

Alfred is in action next on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m. when they travel to take on Nazareth College.
