AU indoor track and field teams compete at Edinboro State

EDINBORO, PA — The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams each competed Saturday at Edinboro (PA) State University. There were no team scores, but several Saxon athletes turned in tpo-10 performances.

Freshman Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor) paced the AU men’s team with a win in the high jump (1.88 meters). Sophomore Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) was sixth in the 60-meter dash (7.32 seconds) and long jump (5.98 meters); senior Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) was fifth in the shot put (14.53 meters) and junior Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport) was fifth in the triple jump (12.49 meters).

Other top performers for the AU men were: junior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), sixth in the 200-meter run (23.26 seconds); freshman Craig Gaymon (White Plains, NY/White Plains), seventh in the 200-meter run (23.37 seconds); sophomore Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic), seventh in the 400-meter run (53.31 seconds). The team of Gaymon, Scott, junior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes) and junior Justin Shardlow (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond) were third in the 4-by-400 meter relay (3:31.92).

Freshman Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) led the AU women, placing fourth in the pole vault (3.10 meters) and tied with two teammates — freshman Eliza Parker (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and freshman Liz De Monte (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) — for fifth in the high jump (1.43 meters).

Other members of the AU women to turn in top-10 performances were: senior Melissa Haahr (Owego, NY/Tioga), seventh in the 800-meter run (2:33.28); freshman Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland), seventh in the triple jump (9.55 meters); senior Kayla Summerville (Fairport, NY/Fairport), seventh in the weight throw (9.24 meters); and sophomore Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia), eighth in the 60-meter dash (8.47 seconds).

The team of Parker, freshman Armoni Jeffries (Rochester, NY/School of the Arts), freshman Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Pettit placed eighth in the 4-by-400 meter relays, while junior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown), Haahr, sophopmore Erin Johnstone (West Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and sophomore Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was fifth in the 4-by-800 meter relay (10:38.45).

The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Sunday, Jan. 30 at the Empire 8 Conference Indoor Championships in Rochester, hosted by RIT.
