Large manufacturing facilities investigations topic of next AU Bergren Forum

Ezra Shales, assistant professor of art history at Alfred University, will present “Investigations into Local Manufacturing” on Thursday, Feb. 3, during AU’s Bergren Forum, 12:10 p.m. in Powell Campus Center’s Nevins Theatre.

Students Shawn Baker and Elena Zachary will accompany Shales. This event is free of charge and open to the public.

The forum will focus on what Shales and his students found when visiting large-scale facilities producing ceramics, glass, wood, and metal.

Shales earned a Ph.D. in decorative arts, design and culture from the Bard Graduate Center. He previously attended Hunter College and Wesleyan University where he received master of fine arts and bachelor of arts degrees, respectively.

Baker is a senior art and design major with a concentration in painting. He studied in the Art and Industry class, taught by Shales in fall 2010.

Zachary is a senior art and design major with a concentration in ceramics. She is on the Western equestrian team and president of the Alfred Clay Collective.

The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Alfred University Division of Human Studies, meets Thursdays during each academic semester at the University. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch; coffee and tea will be available.
