St. John Fisher tops AU women’s basketball team, 57-49

ALFRED, NY – Visiting St. John Fisher beat the Alfred University women’s basketball team, 57-49, Tuesday evening at the McLane Center.

Fisher (10-7, 7-3 Empire) led by just three points, 28-25, at the half, and outscored AU, 29-24, after intermission. Both teams shot poorly, with Fisher making 30 percent of its shots and Alfred (8-10, 3-6 Empire 8) connecting on only 23 percent. Alfred was outrebounded 59-42 and hurt itself by going 13-of-29 (45 percent) from the foul line.

Senior guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) led Alfred with a game-high 21 points to go with five rebounds and three assists. Freshman forward Grace Williamson (Olean, NY/Olean) had nine points, eight rebounds and six blocks and senior guard Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) chipped in with seven points and a pair of rebounds.

Colleen Maloney led three Fisher players in double figures with 12 points and six rebounds. Meghan Soja had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Camaryn Buckner had 11 points and 11 boards.

Alfred is in action next on Friday, Feb. 4, at 6 p.m. against visiting Stevens.
