AU men’s basketball team loses Empire 8 matchup with St. John Fisher

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s basketball team lost to visiting St. John Fisher, 68-46.

Fisher (12-7, 8-2) led 38-25 at the half, courtesy of 56-percent shooting from the floor and eight-of-12 shooting from the foul line. For the game, the Cardinals made 53 percent of their shots from the floor and outrebounded Alfred 33-27. AU, meanwhile, shot 36 percent in the first half and 33 percent for the game, including 17 percent (three of 18) on three-pointers.

Senior guard Gary Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) led Alfred (7-11, 2-7 Empire 8) with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior forward Derek Lewis (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), junior guard Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) and sophomore center Bryan Bobo (Ontario, NY/Wayne) each scored six points.

Jordan Gettings led four Fisher players in double figures with 13 points. Jordan Koch netted 12 and Brandon Witte (five boards) and Jason Norsen (six rebounds) each scored 10.

Alfred is in action next on Friday, Feb. 4, at 8 p.m. at home against Stevens.
