Saxon ski teams wrap up regular season; Stasko and Spitz named all-conference 2/14/11
The Alfred men took fifth place in Saturday’s giant slalom. Junior Stephen Barton (Dansville, NY/Dansville) was Alfred’s top skier, taking 15th place. Freshman Mike Stasko (Batavia, NY/National Sports Academy) was 20th and junior Ryan Nanni (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was 26th. Senior Megan Caggianelli (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was 13th to lead the Alfred women, who finished sixth as a team in the GS. Sophomore Claire Dvorak (Tully, NY/Tully) was 21st and freshman Megan Smith (Naples, NY/Naples) was 28th. In Sunday’s slalom, the AU men were fourth as a team, with Barton taking ninth, Stasko 10th and Nanni 17th. Freshman Rebecca Spitz (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) was the Saxons’ top skier in the slalom, finishing sixth. Caggianelli was 13th and Dvorak 18th as the AU women placed fourth as a team in the slalom. Stasko and Spitz were each named to the Mideast Region’s Finger Lakes Division all-conference teams. Alfred is in action next weekend, Feb. 18-20, at the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) Mideast Region championships at West Mountain in Glens Falls, NY. |
