AU indoor track and field teams compete at Kane Invitational

ITHACA, NY — The Alfred University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams each competed Saturday and Sunday at the Cornell University-hosted Kane Invitational. There were no team scores.

Senior Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) and freshman Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor) each had top-10 finishes to pace the AU men. Ross was third in the shot put (15.07 meters) and Cassin sixth in the high jump (1.89 meters).

Other top performers for the Alfred men included: junior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), 13th in the 200-meter dash (23.81 seconds); sophomore Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), 14th in the 200-meter dash (23.83 seconds) and 19th in the long jump (6.11 meters); freshman Craig Gaymon (White Plains, NY/White Plains), 18th in the long jump (6.14 meters); and junior Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport), 17th in the triple jump (13.02 meters).

The 4X400-meter relay team of Scott, sophomores Stefan Nonnenman (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) and Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster/Catholic) and Gaymon finished seventh in 3:32.69.

Sophomore Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and freshman Eliza Parker (Oswego, NY/Oswego) led the AU women’s team. Morrissey took seventh in the 500-meter dash (1:26.84) and Parker was 11th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.96 seconds) and 14th in the 500-meter dash (1:29.38).

Other top performers for the AU women included: junior Annie Mills (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough), 14th in the 60-meter hurdles (10.02 seconds); 23rd in the 60-meter dash (8.52 seconds); sophomore Erin Johnstone (West Henrietta/Rush Henrietta), 19th in the 1,000-meter run (3:29.45); junior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown), 20th in the 3,000-meter run (11:15.51); freshman Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), 19th in the shot put (9.71 meters); and freshman Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield), 16th in the pole vault (2.85 meters) and 13th in the high jump (1.50 meters).

The team of Morrissey, sophomore Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia), and freshman Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Samantha Rojas were 10th in the 4X400-meter relay (4:37.10).

The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on Friday, Feb. 18, at RIT.
