Confucius Institute at Alfred University to host ‘Song of Silk’ musical performance

The Confucius Institute at Alfred University (CIAU) will host “Song of Silk” on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Miller Theater, Miller Performing Arts Center, Alfred University.

The faculty of the Confucius Institute at Binghamton University, the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, and CIAU are jointly presenting the event.

The performance is open to public. Tickets need to be purchased in advance, online, at the Web Box Office,

Silk signifies music in Chinese culture for its association with traditional stringed musical instruments. “Song of silk” features Beijing Opera, Chinese traditional instrumental music, Chinese folk dance, and Tai Chi.

Alfred’s Confucius Institute is one of only 47 in the United States, and one of only three in New York State. Confucius Institutes, which promote Chinese language and culture through education, are created through the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban).

Alfred University’s partner institution, which provides Chinese faculty members for the Institute as well works with Alfred on its administration, is China University of Geosciences (CUG) in Wuhan, the People’s Republic of China.
