AU women’s basketball team claims Senior Night victory over Nazareth

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women’s basketball team defeated visiting Nazareth College, 75-66, Friday night at the McLane Center. It was a fitting sendoff for the Saxons’ four seniors, who played the final home game of their careers and scored 68 of their team’s 75 points.

Senior forward Autumn McLain (Oneida, NY/Oneida) scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down a game-best 20 rebounds for the Saxons (10-14, 5-10), who led 33-27 at the half and trailed only once after intermission.

Senior guard Lyndsay Murphy (Almond, NY/Hornell) added 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals, and senior guard Courtney Lincoln (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) had 19 points, four rebounds and a game-high five assists.

Nazareth erased a seven-point deficit and grabbed a 47-46 lead on two Rebecca Rumschik free throws with 10:54 left in regulation. A three-pointer by Murphy on Alfred’s next possession ignited a 19-6 AU run that gave the Saxons a 65-53 lead with just under six minutes left and Nazareth never got closer than five the rest of the way.

Senior forward Lauren Sanford (Hornell, NY/Hornell) scored six points for AU, and freshman forward Grace Williamson (Olean, NY/Olean) scored seven points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
