Saxons drop season finale at RIT

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University men’s basketball team was defeated by host RIT, 67-61, in their season finale Saturday afternoon.

The Saxons led RIT, 30-29, at intermission. Alfred shot 48 percent for the first half, while Nazareth shot 46 percent.

AU (8-17 3-13 Empire 8) led until 7:19 remaining, when RIT converted on a three-point play to tie it up at 49. The Tigers when on to outscored AU 18-12 over the course of the final seven minutes to secure the victory. For the game, Alfred shot 42 percent and RIT (11-14, 8-8 Empire 8) shot 48 percent.

Junior forward Patrick Hollenbeck (Ontario, NY/Wayne) scored a team-best 13 points and had a game-high 11 boards to lead the Saxons. Junior guard Josh Parker (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) had 14 points, nine boards, and four assists, and senior guard Gary Kwiecien (Perry, NY/Perry) netted 10 and had five assists.

Justin Heisig scored a game-high 26 points and pulled down seven boards to pace the Tigers. Nate Korinchak and Marcus Lowe scored 12 and 10 points respectively.

Alfred finished the 2010-11 season with a 8-17 record and 3-13 for Empire 8 play.
