AU Western equestrian team sweeps four weekend shows in Alfred
ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University Western equestrian team placed first in all four shows at the AU Invitational, held Feb. 12 and 13 AU Equestrian Center.
In each of the four shows — two on Saturday, Feb. 12, and two on Sunday, Feb. 13 — AU finished first in a field of five that also included Cornell, RIT, Buffalo and Alfred State.
In the first show Saturday, the following riders earned first place blue ribbons: freshman Ashley Sinclair (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) in open reining; freshman Shani Ring (LaFayette, NY/Tully) in open horsemanship; senior Brittney Biegel (Ridge, NY/Longwood) in advanced horsemanship; junior Olivia Campbell (North Java, NY) in novice horsemanship; sophomore Hallie Draegert (Dayton, NY/Gowanda) in intermediate horsemanship Class A; and freshman Derek Partridge (Groveland, NY/Geneseo) in intermediate horsemanship Class B.
In Saturday’s second show, AU got wins from senior Kayla Summerville (Fairport, NY/Fairport) in open reining; Sinclair in open horsemanship; Campbell in novice horsemanship; senior Elena Zachary (Florence, MA/North Hampton) in intermediate horsemanship Class B; and freshman Caralee Cecela (Springville, NY/Springville) in beginner horsemanship.
The following AU riders earned wins in Sunday’s first show: senior Allison Lawrence (New Paltz, NY/Oakwood Friends) in open reining; Sinclair in open horsemanship; Campbell in advanced horsemanship; junior Kaitlyn Schultz (Wassiac, NY/Webituck) in novice horsemanship; freshman Kaitlin Maciejewski (Portlandville, NY/Laurens) in intermediate horsemanship Class B; and junior Erica Babbitt (Caneadea, NY/Belfast) in beginner horsemanship.
In Sunday’s second show, AU got wins from Summerville in open reining; senior Natalie Grow (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) in open horsemanship; Campbell in advanced horsemanship; and Draegert in novice horsemanship.
The AU Western team is back in action at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone II, Region I championships Feb. 27 in Alfred.
