AU Western equestrian team competes at Regionals

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University Western equestrian team competed in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone II, Region I championships on Sunday, Feb. 27, at the AU Equestrian Center.

Eleven AU riders placed in the top two in their respective events and thus advanced to compete in the IHSA National Western Semi-Finals, March 26 and 27 in Springfield, MO.

The following AU riders took first-place ribbons at regionals and will compete in their respective events at National Semi-Finals: senior Kayla Summerville (Fairport, NY/Fairport) in open reining; freshman Ashley Sinclair (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) in open horsemanship; senior Catherine vonHagan (Bath, NY/Haverling) in advanced horsemanship; junior Olivia Campbell (North Java, NY) in novice horsemanship; junior Kaitlyn Bentley (Jamestown, NY) in intermediate horsemanship; and senior Peter Metz (Syracuse, NY) in beginner horsemanship.

The following AU riders earned second-place finishes and will also compete in their respective events at National Semi-Finals: Sinclair in open reining; senior Allison Lawrence (New Paltz, NY/Oakwood Friends) in open horsemanship; senior Natalie Grow (Hyde Park, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) in advanced horsemanship; and senior Brittney Biegel (Ridge, NY/Longwood) in novice horsemanship.

Lawrence also placed second in open reining and senior Kelly Rogan (Smithtown, NY) was third in intermediate horsemanship. Also competing for AU at regionals were sophomore Hallie Draegert (Dayton, NY/Gowanda) and senior Kamilla Bramham (Brooksville, MN), fourth and sixth, respectively, in intermediate horsemanship.
