AU men’s tennis team wins first match in Florida

KISSIMMEE, FL — The men’s tennis team defeated Misericordia 8-1 in the Saxons’ lone match last week. The match was the first of four AU is playing on its Spring Break trip to Florida.

AU got singles wins from senior Connor Houghton (Orleans, MA/Nauset Regional), 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) in first singles; senior Nick Schneider (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), 6-1, 6-2 in second singles; junior Nathan Garletts (Havertown, PA/Haverford), 6-0, 6-1 in third singles; sophomore Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence), 6-2, 6-0 in fifth singles; and freshman Eric Teller (Granville, NY/Granville), 6-2, 6-3 in sixth singles.

AU swept the doubles matches, with Houghton and Schneider taking first doubles, 8-2; Garletts and Nonnenmann winning second doubles, 8-5; and junior Nathan Kucko (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) and Teller winning third doubles, 9-8 (10-4).

AU has three matches remaining in Florida: Monday, March 7, against St. Francis (IL), Tuesday, March 8, against Kings College; and Wednesday, March 9, against Urisnus.
