AU softball team loses to Lincoln Land

TITUSVILLE, FL – The Alfred University softball team dropped a 5-4 decision Tuesday to Lincoln Land College.

The game against Lincoln Land, a Division II school in Illinois, was Alfred’s lone game Tuesday. The Saxons (3-2) are in the midst of a 10-game slate during their Spring Break trip to Florida.

AU led 4-2 before Lincoln Land scored three late unearned runs to pull out the victory. AU senior pitcher Chelsey Cary (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) went the distance for the Saxons, dropping her first of three decisions on the year. She allowed two unearned runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking three.

Sophomore catcher Emily Fenton (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) had a hit and drove in two runs and senior first baseman Ashley Passaro (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) (RBI) and freshman shortstop Stephanie Arguello (Placentia, CA/Vista del Lago) each went 2-for-4 with a runs scored.

Sophomore catcher Hana Gross (Union, NJ/Union) and sophomore second baseman Kassandra Corsi (Willoughby, OH/Willougby) each had a hit and scored a run, and freshman centerfielder Breeal Delgado (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos) (double) and freshman second baseman Maressa Mistretta (Shirley, NY/Longwood) each had a hit.

AU is idle today (March 9) and returns to action with a pair of games against Division II opponents on Thursday (March 10): 9 a.m. against Bloomfield and 1 p.m. against Concord. The Saxons play Concord on Friday before wrapping up their trip with two games (11 a.m., 1 p.m.) on Saturday against Johnson (VT) State.
