Hedrick throws no-hitter as Saxons win two in Florida

TITUSVILLE, FL -- Junior Nicole Hedrick (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) tossed a no-hitter as the Alfred University softball team defeated Ancaster College 19-0 in five innings Friday.

AU won both games played Friday during the team's Spring Break trip in Florida. In the other game, the Saxons (5-2) beat Lincoln Land 7-0.

Hedrick, nearly threw a perfect game against Ancaster, allowing only one baserunner to reach on a walk while striking out six. Freshman Danielle Mastropierro Randolph, NJ/Randolph) had two hits, drove in three runs and scored once; sophomore Kassandra Corsi (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby) had two doubles, four RBIs and scored three runs; and sophomore Hana Gross (Union, NJ/Union) had a hit and scored three times.

Freshman Breeal Delgado (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos) had two stolen bases; freshman Alexis Caruso (Coram, NY/Longwood) went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI; freshman Stephanie Arguello (Placentia, CA/El Dorado) had two hits, a stolen base and a run scored; freshman Jacqueline Tomisman (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) drove in a run and scored once; senior Ashley Passaro (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) had two hits and drove in two runs; and freshman Melissa Montano (West Covina, CA/Walnut) scored three runs and drove in two.

Senior Chelsey Cary (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) struck out six and allowed five hits in a complete-game shutout of Lincoln Land. Hedrick went 2-for-3 with a solo homerun and scored twice; junior Molly Shepherd (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) hit two doubles and drove in two runs; and Gross went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Montano went 2-for-4 with a double and a run and sophomore Emily Fenton (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) had two RBIs and scored once.

AU wraps up its Florida trip with a pair of games Saturday (March 12) against Johnston (VT) State.
