AU softball team sweeps Johnson State to end Florida trip 3/13/11
AU won the first game 14-0 in five innings and the second game 8-0 in five innings to finish the Saxons' season-opening Florida trip with a 7-2 record. In the first game, junior Nicole Hedrick (Albany, NY/Catholic Central) went 4-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and three runs and senior Chelsey Cary (Corfu, NY/Pembroke) threw a two-hit shutout, striking out three and walking one. Junior Molly Shepherd (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run; freshman Breeal Delgado (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos) went 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run; and junior Angela Netta (Rahway, NJ/Mother Seton Regional) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. In the second game, Hedrick struck out six and walked none for the complete-game three-hit shutout. Sophomore Maressa Mistretta (Shirley, NY/Longwood) went 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored; and freshman Stephanie Arguello (Placentia, CA/El Dorado) had two hits, stole a base and scored a run. Sophomore Hana Gross (Union, NJ/Union) had a hit and scored twice; freshman Alexis Caruso (Coram, NY/Longwood) hit a double, drove in two runs and scored once; freshman Shannon Flaherty (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport) went 2-for-3 with an RBI; and freshman Sarah Crowley (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) went 1-for-2 with a run scored. AU plays next on Tuesday, March 22, with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Pitt-Bradford. |
