Alfred University's MFA program again ranked number one for ceramic art

The 2012 edition of U.S. News and World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools” again ranks the Master of Fine Arts program at Alfred University tops in the nation for ceramic art.

The program in glass art is ranked second in the nation, tied with Rochester Institute of Technology.

Overall, the MFA program is ranked 10th in the nation, making it the highest-ranked art program among all schools in New York State.

“It is gratifying to see this recognition of the efforts of our students, staff, and faculty. Their shared commitment to excellence never wavers,” said President Charles M. Edmondson.

“It is inspirational to see the excellent programs in the School of Art and Design acknowledged by the impressive rankings of the US News,” said Leslie Bellavance, dean of the School of Art ad Design, who noted the School “has been consistently ranked among the top art and design programs in the state and in the country. The curriculum provides a true multi-disciplinary environment for creative and scholarly research in art.”

The School of Art and Design, which is part of the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, offers undergraduate concentrations in painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, graphic design, video and sonic arts, ceramics, glass and sculpture as well as art history. MFA programs include electronic arts, ceramic art and sculpture, which encompasses glass.
