AU men’s lacrosse team defeats Morrisville to remain unbeaten

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team remained unbeaten, defeating visiting Morrisville, 11-9, Wednesday afternoon at Merrill Field.

AU (5-0) led 8-4 after the first half, holding a 21-15 advantages in shots. Alfred scored the lone goal in the third, but the Mustangs came out strong in the fourth quarter, outsocoring the Saxons 5-1. For the game, AU held a 37-23 advantage in groundballs and finished an impressive 19 of 24 on faceoffs.

Junior attack Stefan Dabkowski (Latham, NY/Shaker) scored a game-best six goals and senior attack Marc Zoyhofski (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) netted two goals and a game-high three assists to pace the Saxons. Freshman attack Caleb McCaig (Corning, NY/Corning West) scored a goal and dished out two assists. Freshman midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/The Kiksi School), and sophomore midfielder Jay Stearns (Corning, NY/Corning West) each had a goal, while freshman long-stick midfielder Pat Walsh ( Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) finished with an assist and four groundballs.

Freshman midfielder Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) finished 19 of 23 on faceoffs and picked up a game-high 17 groundballs. Sophomore defender Jake Spadoni (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) scooped up three grounds and had a game-high four caused turnovers.

Sophomore Justin Becker (Conesus, NY/Livonia) went the distance in goal for the Saxons making 14 saves.

Brandon Macera had two goals and an assist to lead Morrisville (2-1). Michael Hinchey made eight saves in net for the Mustangs.

AU returns to action Mar. 19 at 4 p.m., when they take on visiting Medaille College.
