Marywood tops Saxons, 12-6

ALFRED, NY —The visiting Marywood Pacers use strong second half to defeat the Alfred University women’s lacrosse team 12-6, Sunday afternoon at Merrill Field.

The Pacers scored the games first three goals, before freshman midfielder Ashley Chow (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) scored the Saxons first goal with 13:48 to play in the first half. AU responded to Chow’s goal with two more unanswered goals to tie the game 3-3 with 6:27 left in the first half. The Paces scored two goals in just under a three-minute span, to make it a two-goal game. Senior attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads,NY/Horseheads) scored of an assist from freshman midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) with one second left in the first half to trim the deficit to one (5-4).

AU struck first in the second half when White found Adams for the second time to tie the game 5-5, with 26:21 left to play. The Pacers scored two goals in an 11 second span to regain the lead 6-5. Sophomore attack Ali Garcia (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial) found the back of the net at the 24:30 mark to cut the lead again to one, but the Saxons would get no closer as the Pacers scored the games final five goals to claim a 12-6 victory.

White finished with a team-high three points (one goal, two assists) and sophomore midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) had a goal and an assist to lead AU (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8). Junior attack Ivy Lam (Sanford, ME/Sanford) and sophomore midfielder Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) each had an assist.

Sarah Caughy scored a game-high four goals and Diana D’Achille netted a goal and had two assists to lead the Pacers (4-2).

Senior Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) went the distance in goal for Alfred, making 12 saves, while Marywood’s Megan Planz also went the distance and had 11 saves.

Alfred plays next on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. against Morrisville.
