AU men’s tennis team edges Behrend

ERIE, PA – The Alfred University men’s tennis team defeated host Penn State-Behrend, 5-4, Friday afternoon.

The Saxons (3-2, 0-0 Empire 8) split six singles matches with the Lions but took two of three doubles matchups to claim the win and snap a two-match losing streak.

AU got singles wins from junior Nathan Garletts (Havertown, PA/Haverford), 6-2, 6-1 in third singles; junior Nathan Kucko (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks), 6-2, 6-1 in fourth singles; and sophomore Stefan Nonnenmann (New Providence, NJ/New Providence), 6-1, 6-2 in fifth singles.

Kucko and Nonnenmann won in second doubles, 9-8 (7-4), while Garletts teamed with
senior Ryan Parlia (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South), to win third doubles, 8-2.

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, April 2, at 2 p.m. when the Saxons open Empire 8 Conference play against visiting Stevens.
