AU women’s lacrosse team tops Wells 4/07/11
Senior attack Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) scored four goals for AU (1-5, 0-2 Empire 8) and freshman midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip), sophomore attack Ali Garcia (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial) and senior attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) each scored three times. Garcia and White each assisted on a goal as well, and sophomore midfielder Tracy McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) had two goals, an assist, four groundballs, three draw controls, and a pair of forced turnovers. AU led 13-3 at the half, outshooting the host Express 20-10 in the game’s first 30 minutes. After Wells took a 2-1 lead 11:14 into the game, Alfred reeled off seven straight goals to take an 8-2 lead with 10:21 left in the half. Wells scored two straight to cut its deficit to 8-4 with 7:30 left before before AU went on a five-goal run. Wells scored three of the first four goals of the second half to make it 14-8 with 14:44 left in regulation, but the Saxons answered with three straight to put the game out of reach. Madeline Bass netted a game-high five goals for Wells (4-4). Senior Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) made eight saves for Alfred, while Elizabeth Barclay made six saves in net for Wells. Alfred is in action next on Saturday, April 9, at 1 p.m. at Nazareth. |
