Alfred University women’s lacrosse falls to RIT, 19-7

ALFRED, NY — The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team was defeated, 19-7, by hot RIT Sunday afternoon in Empire 8 Conference play.

Both teams played a tight first half as RIT held a slight 8-7 advantage at the half. The Tigers scored 10-3 second half, while holding the Saxons scoreless, en route to a 19-7 victory. For the game, the Lady Saxons were outshot 40-18.

Senior attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), freshman midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip), sophomore midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) and each scored two goals. Senior attack Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) netted a goal and dished out a team-best three assists.

Shelby Vakiener scored a game-high 11 points on six goals and five assists and Rebecca Lampson netted five goals and helped on two others to lead RIT (4-7, 3-2 Empire 8).

Senior Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) made nine saves in goal for Alfred. Katelyn Crane played the first 51:40 in net for the Tigers stopping four shots, and Caitlin Conway played the remaining 8:20 in goal making three saves.

Alfred is in action next on Wednesday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Medaille.
