AU women’s lacrosse team defeats Medaille, 15-6 4/13/11
AU (2-7, 0-4 Empire 8) led 9-2 at the half as the Saxons outshot the hosts 17-10. For the game AU held a 32-23 advantage in shots, and a slight 26-24 advantage in groundballs. Adams got AU on the board scoring her first goal 38 seconds into the contest. The Saxons went on to score seven unanswered goals before the Mavericks scored a pair to make it an 8-2 game with 8:32 left in the first half. Senior attack Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) netted the AU’s ninth and final goal of the first half to head into halftime with a commanding 9-2 lead. Alfred would tack on six more in the second half including three more from Adams, as Medaille managed to net four. Caldwell finished with three goals and an assist, and freshman midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) scored a goal, while dishing out a game-high three assists. Sophomore midfielder Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) finished with two goals and two assists. Marilyn Meyer had team-best goals for Medaille (2-6). Maverick goalie Chris Balestracci made 10 saves. Alfred is in action next on Saturday, March 16, at 12 p.m. at home against Ithaca. |
