Saxons top Utica, 12-9
The Saxons led 5-1 at intermission courtesy of five unanswered goals. In the second half the Saxons tallied four unanswered goals over a six-minute span, increasing their lead to 11-4 with 4:08 left in the third quarter. Utica railed scoring five of the games final six goals to pull within three (12-9) with 5:20 left in the contest, but it would be too late as the Saxons hung on for the victory. For the game, AU outshot the Pioneers 51-42, and a 33-26 advantage in groundballs.
Junior attack Stefan Dabkowski (Latham, NY/Shaker (SUNY Delhi) scored two goals, and assisted on two others to lead the Saxons (10-2, 2-2 Empire 8). Freshman attack Caleb McCaig (Corning, NY/Corning West (Mercyhurst)) scored three goals, and senior attack Marc Zoyhofski (Blasdell, NY/Frontier), and freshman midfielder Derek Green (Pittsburgh, PA/The Kiski School) each netted a pair of goals. Junior midfielder Brendan Murphy (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) and freshman long-stick midfielder Pat Walsh (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) each chipped in with a goal, while freshman midfielder Matt Hauser (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) added an assist. Freshman midfielder Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) went 20-25 on face-offs and scooped up a game-high 16 groundballs.
Chris Gibbs and Justin Edlestein each scored a goal and had three assists to pace Utica (2-9, 0-4 Empire 8).
Sophomore Justin Becker (Conesus, NY/Livonia) started in net for the Saxons making seven saves. Joe Davis played the first 36:40 in goal for the Pioneers making seven saves, before Wilson Mukrdecian came in to play the remainder, and made three saves.
