AU outdoor track and field teams each place fourth at E8 championships
ROCHESTER, NY — The Alfred University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams each placed fourth of six teams competing at the Empire 8 Conference championships Sunday at RIT.
The Saxons had champions on the men’s and women’s sides. Senior Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) won the men’s shot put with a championship toss of 14.74 meters, which also qualified him to compete at the ECAC outdoor championships May 19 and 20 in Bethlehem, PA. Freshman Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) won the pole vault, with her vault of 3.30 meters setting a new AU women’s record and qualifying her for the ECAC meet, and sophomore Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia) won a women’s title in the 200-meter dash (28.27 seconds).
Larkins was also second in the 100-meter dash (13.30 seconds); Graudons was fourth in the high jump (1.55 meters); and Ross third in the javelin (38.10 meters).
Other top performers for the AU women were: freshman Armoni Jeffries (Rochester, NY/School of the Arts), fifth in the 200-meter dash (29.62 seconds) and seventh in the 100-meter dash (13.98 seconds); sophomore Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell), sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.67); freshman Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.98 seconds) and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:17.16); junior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown) and sophomore Erin Johnstone (West Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), seventh (5:13.02) and 10th (5:31.52), respectively, in the 1,500-meter run; sophomore Jennifer Miranda (Bronx, NY/Academy of Letters), seventh in the long jump (4.40 meters); freshman Kelly McNamara (Hurleyville, NY/Tri-Valley), fifth in the shot put (9.95 meters); sophomore Kelly-Jo Beck (York, NY/York), seventh in the shot put (9.74 meters), fifth in the discus (28.62 meters) and eighth in the javelin (21.45 meters); and sophomores Jennifer Kirsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield) and Kirsten Cook (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East), seventh (26.06 meters) and ninth (25.61 meters), respectively.
Other top performers for the Saxon men were: freshmen Craig Gaymon (White Plains, NY/White Plains), second in the 200-meter dash (23.70 seconds) and fourth in the high jump (1.83 meters); junior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), third in the 200-meter dash (23.86 seconds) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (52.78 seconds); Jason Osborne, fourth in the shot put (13.10 meters); freshman Isaiah Cassin (Candor, NY/Candor), sixth in the high jump (1.78 meters); sophomore Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster Catholic), eighth in the 200-meter dash (24.71 seconds) and 400-meter dash (52.78 seconds); sophomore Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.75 seconds); Derek Hunter, eighth in the 100-meter dash (12.20 seconds); and junior Evan Roush (Newport, PA/Newport) and senior Austin Fox (Reinholds, PA/Lancaster Catholic), fourth (13.08 meters) and fifth (13.04 meters), respectively, in the triple jump.
The AU men’s and women’s teams are in action next on April 28 and 29 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA.
