Lady Saxons fall to Elmira, 13-8

ALFRED, NY —The Alfred University women’s lacrosse team fell to host Elmira College, 13-8, Wednesday afternoon in an Empire 8 contest.

The Soaring Eagles netted the games first three goals before sophomore attack Ali Garcia (Salt Lake City, UT/Judge Memorial) tallied an unassisted goal with 21:22 left in the first half. Teams would trade goals before Elmira scored three unanswered goals to give them a 7-2 lead with just over two minutes left in the first half. The teams would again trade goals this time in the final minute of the first half to give the Soaring Eagles an 8-3 lead at the half.

In the second half of play each teach found the net five times, as the Saxons got no closer than four (10-6, with 16:10 left to play). For the game, Elmira outshot AU 36-25, and held a 25-14 advantage in groundballs.

Garcia finished with three goals and senior attack Michelle Adams (Horseheads, NY/Horsesheads) scored a pair of goals to lead AU (2-10, 0-7 Empire 8). Freshman midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip)(one assist), and sophomore midfielders Devin Fitzgerald (Rochester, NY/ Greece Olympia), and Tracie McGinnity (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) each had a goal. Senior defender Jennifer Omilanowicz (Mexico, NY/Mexico), and freshman defender Janelle Gallipeau (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) each recorded an assist.

Jordan Donegan scored a game-high four goals and Lindsay Mitchell scored three goals, while dishing out a pair of assists lead the Soaring Eagles.

Senior Kate Baughman (Rush, NY/Rush-Henrietta) made 16 saves in goal for Alfred, while Mary Kate Gellerman made 12 saves earning the victory for Elmira (5-7, 2-5 Empire 8).

Alfred is in action next on Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at St. John Fisher.
