Men’s lacrosse falls at Fisher, 16-7 4/23/11
AU was shutout in the first half, as Fisher netted 12 goals. The Saxons finally got on the board converting on a extra-man opportunity when junior attack Aaron Ward (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) found sophomore midfielder Jay Stearns (Corning, NY/Corning West(Mercyhurst)) just thirty seconds into the third quarter. For the game, the Cardinals outshot AU 36-21, and held a 31-24 advantage in groundballs. Junior attack Stefan Dabkowski (Latham, NY/Shaker (SUNY Delhi)) scored three goals to pace the Saxons (10-4, 2-4 Empire 8). Freshman midfielder Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) netted a goal and dished out a team-best two assists. Senior attack Marc Zoyhofski (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) (one assist), and freshman long-stick midfielder Pat Walsh (Buffalo, NY/Bishop Timon-St. Jude) each scored a goal. Sophomore Justin Becker (Conesus, NY/Livonia) played the first 45 minutes in goal for AU making seven saves, before junior John Landi (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) took over for the fourth quarter. Kyle Denhoff recorded a hat-trick (three goals) and four other Cardinals scored at least two goals to lead Fisher (10-4, 2-4 Empire). Jamie Campagna and M.P. Joseph played 11 and seven minutes respectively, and each made one save. Alfred is in action next on Wednesday April 27 at 4 p.m., when they travel to take on Ithaca College. |
