Saxons fall to Ithaca, 18-1

ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University men’s lacrosse team was defeated by Ithaca, 18-1, Wednesday afternoon.

Alfred (10-5, 2-5 Empire 8) trailed 10-0 at the half. For the game, Ithaca outshot AU, 41-18, and picked up 33 groundballs to Alfred’s 14.

Freshman attack Caleb McCaig (Corning, NY/Corning West (Mercyhurst)) scored Alfred’s lone goal on an assist from junior attack Stefan Dabkowski (Latham, NY/Shaker (SUNY Delhi).

Andrew Bruce (one assist) and Jake Long each netted a game-high three goals to lead Ithaca (9-6, 5-2 Empire 8). Devin Weinshank and Brian Bencosme each score two goals, and eight Bombers scored at least one goal.

Sophomore Justin Becker (Conesus, NY/Livonia) played the first 6:40 making one save and allowing five goals. Junior goalie John Landi (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley) played the remaining time in goal, making a career-high 12 saves.

David Gal played the first 56 minutes in goal for Ithaca, making nine saves and allowing one goal and Luke Robinson played the remaining time in goal and made one save.

Alfred concludes their 2011 regular season Saturday, April 30, at 1 pm, when they take on Empire 8 Conference foe Hartwick.
