Three Saxons named Empire 8 women’s lacrosse all-stars

ALFRED, NY – Alfred University’s Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell), Hannah Scott (Randolph, VT/Randolph Union), and Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) each have been named Empire 8 Conference women’s lacrosse all-stars.

The Empire 8 announced its all-star teams Monday and each were given Honorable Mention.

Caldwell, a senior attacker, started 13 games, scoring 18 goals and dishing out a team-best 12 assists for 30 points. In Empire 8 play she had 15 points on eight goals and seven assists, while winning 26 draw-controls and scooping up 19 groundballs. Caldwell finished her AU career with 94 points, on 58 goals (tenth all time at AU) and 36 assists.

Scott, a junior defender, started all 14 games, scooping up 30 groundballs and causing a team-best 15 turnovers to earn Honorable Mention for the second straight season, In E8 action she picked up 16 groundballs and caused nine turnovers.

White, a freshman midfielder, started all 14 games, finishing with 29 points (third on the team) on 20 goals (second on team) and nine assists (second on team), while winning 32 draw-controls. In conference play, she finished with seven points on six goals and an assist, and won 29 draw-controls, while scooping up 14 groundballs.

Each season, the Empire 8 honors students-athletes from each conference school, who play on teams sponsored by the conference, with Sportsperson of the Year awards. Honorees, chosen by their coaches, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship in keeping with the conference’s mission of “competing with honor and integrity.” Senior attack Chelsea Gill (Winfield, PA/Lewisburg Area) is Alfred’s honoree from the men’s lacrosse team.

Alfred finished the 2011 season with a 2-12 record (0-8 Empire 8).
