AU outdoor track and field teams compete at Last Chance Qualifier
ONEONTA, NY — In their final tune-up before this week’s ECAC outdoor championships, the Alfred University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Last Chance Qualifer Saturday, May 14, at Oneonta State.
Two individuals — one from the men’s team and one from the women’s squad — and a men’s relay met standards for the ECAC championships, hosted by Moravian College (Bethlehem, PA) on Thursday and Friday, May 19 and 20.
Freshmen Craig Gaymon (White Plains, NY/White Plains) won the men’s high jump with an ECAC-qualifying height of 1.93 meters. Freshman Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) won the women’s pole vault with an ECAC-qualifying height of 3.36 meters. Graudons had already qualified for the ECAC’s with a school- and meet-record 3.55 meters at the New York State championships May 6 and 7, which also provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Division III championships.
Also, the men’s team of sophomore Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster Catholic), junior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden), Gaymon and sophomore Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) qualified for the ECACs with their second-place finish in the 4X100-meter relay (43.88 seconds).
Other top performers for the men’s team at Oneonta were: Lopez, eighth in the 100-meter dash (11.81 seconds); Weaver, 10th in the 200-meter dash (23.18 seconds); senior Austin Fox (Reinholds, PA/Lancaster Catholic), seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (16.30 seconds), ninth in the long jump (5.89 meters), and fifth in the triple jump (12.75 meters); and freshman Jason Osborne (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), fourth in the shot put (13.40 meters). The team of junior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), Gaymon, Scott and Weaver took fifth in the 4X400-meter relay (3:25.13).
Other top women’s performers for the Saxons were: sophomore Jordyn Larkins (Rochester, NY/Harley-Allendale-Columbia), eighth in the 200-meter dash (27.06 seconds); freshman Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.48 seconds); freshman Eliza Parker (Oswego, NY/Oswego), sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.19); and freshman Corine Pettit (Strykersville, NY/Holland), ninth in the triple jump (9.71 meters). The team of freshman Armoni Jeffries (Rochester, NY/School of the Arts), Parker and sophomore Amy Morrissey (Hornell, NY/Hornell) took third in the 4X100-meter relay (53.32 seconds).
