AU’s Shepherd earns NFCA all-region honors

ALFRED, NY - Molly Shepherd (Camillus, NY/West Genesee), a junior third baseman on the Alfred University softball team, has been named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association regional all-star.

Shepherd was named to the NFCA Northeast Region Second Team after batting .438 this season, with 17 runs and a team-leading 21 RBIs. She had a team-best 35 hits, including five doubles and two triples, and posted a .550 slugging percentage. She stole five bases in five attempts and had a .935 fielding percentage. It marks the third time in three seasons Shepherd was named an NFCA Northeast Region Second Team all-star.

An Empire 8 Conference First Team selection, Shepherd batted .435 in conference play and had a .522 slugging percentage, with 20 hits 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored. She also had a .932 fielding percentage in Empire 8 games, tops among conference third basemen.

Alfred finished the 2011 season with a 16-9 record, including a 7-7 mark in Empire 8 play. The Saxons were tied for fourth in the conference but with tiebreakers missed qualifying for the four-team Empire 8 championship tournament.
