AU outdoor track and field teams set for ECAC outdoor championships

BETHLEHEM, PA- The Alfred University men’s and women’s track and field teams will send a nine-athlete contingent to the ECAC outdoor championship meet, Thursday and Friday at Moravian College.

Three each from the AU men’s and women’s teams will compete in individual events, while the men’s team will compete in one relay.

Among those competing are senior Shawn Ross (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga), in the men’s shot put (seeded at 15.65 meters), and freshman Rebecca Graudons (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) in the women’s pole vault (seeded at 3.55 meters). Both won their respective events at the New York State championships two weeks ago, setting new school records and qualifying provisionally for the NCAA Division III championships May 26-28 in St. Delaware, OH.

Other ECAC qualifiers from AU are: Freshmen Craig Gaymon (White Plains, NY/White Plains) in the men’s high jump (1.98 meters); junior Rich Scott (Eden, NY/Eden) in the men’s 200-meter dash (21.98 seconds); junior Elisabeth Phillips-Jones (Watertown, MA/Watertown) in the women’s 10,000-meter run (40:15.78); and freshman Chelsea Hall (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) in the 100-meter hurdles (16.24 seconds).

The team of junior Randy Brito (New York, NY/Cardinal Hayes), sophomore Jeremy Weaver (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster Catholic), Gaymon and sophomore Chris Lopez (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) will compete in the 4X100-meter relay (43.00 seconds).
