More than 100 recruits set to join Alfred University football team

ALFRED, NY - The Alfred University football team will welcome 101 new recruits when preseason camp opens in mid-August. Among the newcomers are 11 high school all-state selections from New York and two all-conference transfer tailbacks.

The New York all-state high school recruits are Brandon Beatty, running back from Ballston Lake; Jermaine Adams, wide receiver/running back from Nedrow; David Moore, offensive tackle from Lowman; Isiah Young, defensive back from Groton; Dylan Anna, defensive tackle from Yorkshire; Justin Liberta, linebacker from Hamburg; Josh Koscielniak, center from Orchard Park; Tyler Robinson, running back from Lockport; Tyler Shaw, offensive tackle from Boston; Christian Smith, wide receiver/defensive back from Lackawanna; and Dereon Washington, defensive end from Buffalo.

Also joining the team is Jonathan Clemo, a junior tailback who transfers to AU after playing two seasons at Washington & Lee, where he was named a Second Team Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) all-star in 2009, and Tyler DeRosa, a junior tailback who transfers to the Saxons after two seasons at Western Connecticut State, where he was a two-time New Jersey Athletic Conference all-star.

Beatty (6-0, 190) was a Class A all-state pick in 2010 as a senior at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. He was also Northwest Division Offensive Player of the Year last fall.

Adams (5-10, 180) was a Class D all-state pick as a senior at Onondaga High School.

Moore (6-5, 250) earned Class A all-state honors last season at Elmira Free Academy.

Anna (6-1, 255) was a First Team Class B state all-star as a senior at Pioneer High School in 2010. He was also a Second Team Western New York all-star and was on the Big 30 all-star squad.

Liberta (5-8, 180) was a New York State Class AA all-star last fall as a senior at Frontier High School. He was also a Section VI Class AA South First Team all-star and Defensive MVP, and an honorable mention Western New York all-star.

Koscielniak (6-0, 300) was a Class AA all-state pick last season as a senior at Orchard Park High School and was a First Team all-Western New York selection as well.

Robinson (5-8, 165) was a New York State Class A all-star in 2010 at Starpoint High School. He was also a Third Team Western New York all-star, a Section VI Class A North all-star and the Class A North Offensive MVP.

Shaw (6-5, 240) was a New York State Class B all-star and a Section VI First Team Class B South all-star as a senior at Eden High School last fall.

Smith (5-11, 185) was a First Team Class B all-state pick in 2010 and was also a First Team Western New York all-star.

Washington (5-11, 240) earned Class AA all-state honors as a senior at Riverside High School in 2010. He was also a Third Team Western New York all-star.

Clemo (5-8, 180), from Salem, VA, played two seasons (2008, 2009) at Washington & Lee, starting as a sophomore in 2010. In 2009, he was a Second Team all-ODAC pick after rushing for 923 yards (third in the conference) and 11 touchdowns. In two seasons at W&L, he ran for 1,017 yards and 12 TDs and caught 13 passes for 104 yards. Clemo played high school football at Salem (VA) High, where he was a district all-star in 2006 and 2007 and a regional all-star in 2007.

DeRosa (5-8, 195), from Miller Place, NY (Long Island), played the 2009 and 2010 seasons at Western Connecticut. He was the NJAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2009, when he want for 305 yards and three TDs, caught 24 passes for 132 yards and averaged 24 yards on 19 kickoff returns. He was an honorable mention conference all-star last season, his first as a starter at Western Connecticut, when he rushed for 739 yards and four scores and caught 17 passes for 183 yards. DeRosa was a Suffolk County all-star as a junior and senior at Miller Place High School.
