Scholes Library at Alfred University appoints engineering librarian

The Scholes Library at Alfred University has named Fang Wan an assistant librarian in the areas of emerging technology and engineering. Her appointment was announced by Mark A. Smith, library director.

Fang Wan brings to the position an educational background in both engineering and library science. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Science and Technology in Beijing, the People’s Republic of China, in 2006; a master’s in engineering from the University of Singapore in 2008; and a Master of Library and Information Science from the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2010.

Prior to joining the faculty of the Scholes Library, Fang Wan was a graduate assistant and reference assistant at the Grainger Engineering Library and Information Center, as well as a web portal administrator and programmer for the Asian Library, both at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Part of the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, the Samuel R. Scholes Library of Ceramics was crated in 1947 to provide support for the college’s specialized curricula in engineering and art.

Scholes Library today serves as an international resource for information on the art, science, technology, and history of ceramics and glass, and its collections of print and non-print material on photography, art history, contemporary art, electronic media, glass art, and sculpture are outstanding.

Current holdings include 100,000 bound volumes, 60,000 government research reports, 160,000 slides, and a variety of other materials. The library faculty includes specialists in art and design, engineering and science, visual resources and information systems.
