8/29/11

Video work by Andrew Deutsch, Alfred University sonic/video professor in the Expanded Media Department, is on display at the University of Virginia through Wednesday, Sept. 21, as part of The Niche in the Fine Arts Library (Fiske Kimball Fine Arts Library).

The Niche is a new media project consisting of a Mac Pro and a 60-inch HD capable flat-screen monitor mounted on a wall in a highly trafficked area of the library. There are several comfortable chairs to encourage viewers to sit and take their time as well as several pairs of wireless headphones.

Deutsch, a member of the AU class of 1990, is an artist who works primarily with sound, sometimes in concert with video. He is the founder of the Sonic Arts program in the School of Art & Design at Alfred University.

He earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in video and printmaking at AU and a master of fine arts degree in integrated electronic art at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy.
