Potsdam, Oswego first day victors at AU Women’s Soccer Tournament

ALFRED, NY - Alfred University fell to SUNY Potsdam 2-0, on Saturday. This was the first game played at the AU Women’s Soccer Invitational Tournament. Oswego also outlasted Juniata with a 3-2 victory in the next game.

Potsdam’s Tannicia Joseph netted the first goal 36 minutes and 53 seconds into the game off an cross from Jackie Miller. The Bears notched their second when Heather Johnson found the back of the net with just over 18 minutes remaining in the contest. For the game, Potsdam outshot Alfred 8-7.

Junior goal keeper Ashley Frazell (Newton, NJ/Newton) played the full game in net for AU and made three saves.

In the second game, Oswego’s Nikki Liadka led the Lakers with 2 goals. Shelly Bateman also netted the third goal, which edged Oswego past Juniata for the win. Nikki Hankinson and Alicia Snyder each scored a goal for Juniata.

The second day of action continues Sunday, September 4 when Juniata faces off against Potsdam at 12:00 p.m. Alfred looks to bounce back when they face Oswego at 3 p.m.
