AU falls in Oswego State Championship game 9/03/11
The Lakers struck first when Sam Moores netted a pass from Brandon Comden 19:37 into the contest. AU responded scoring two unanswered goals to take a 2-1, lead with 37 minutes remaining. The game would remain 2-1, until Oswego’s Andrew McBride buried a header from Mike Naab, tying the game 2-2. With four and a half minutes remaining in regulation Brandon Comden netted the go ahead and eventual game-winner from Naab. Freshman defender Connor Petrauskas (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon), and freshman forward Brendan Collins (Tompkins Cove, NY/St. Thomas More) each netted a goal for the Saxons, and junior midfielder’s Tony Gai (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock), and Frankie Mannino (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) each had an assist. Senior Elliot Thorpe (Highlands Ranch, CO/Thunder Ridge) made one save for the Saxons, and PJ Goodwin stopped four shots in goal for Oswego. AU returns to action Wednesday, Sept 7, at 7 p.m. When they take on visiting Pitt-Bradford. |
