The College of Business at Alfred University will open its Speakers’ Series with a presentation by Jim Reed, a consultant on leadership and team-building, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall.

The title of his talk is "Career Strategies: Education is Great, Desire is Better."

"Some students in the Student Marketing Association of Alfred (SOMA), our student chapter of the American Marketing Association, first heard Mr. Reed present on team-building at a conference in New Orleans," explained Maeghen MacDonald, assistant dean.

Impressed by what they heard, the students returned to Alfred with a request that the College invited Reed to campus.

The College asked; Reed accepted, and the result will be a presentation open to not just College of Business students and faculty, but the entire University community as well as area residents.
Reed will also be working with members of student groups, including SOMA, the student chapter of the Society of Human Resources Management, and the Student-Managed Investment Fund, on career connections, mock interviews, resume tips and ice-breakers to start conversations. He will be meeting with College faculty and administrators to introduce team-building activities.

Reed spent more than 20 with IBM before forming his own company, Jim Reed Enterprises. He speaks at universities throughout the United States and Latin America on topics such as communications, leadership development, diversity, and team-building.
